There is no more an important role than that of a parent. The excitement, the anticipation as we await the arrival of our baby, then the reality of of the preciousness of this gift of life entrusted to us as their unique personalities unfold.
As a parent myself(albeit older one now!) and how the years have rolled by! I look back and wonder if I would have done it diferently having all the wisdom I have now compared to my earlier years as young Mum. I guess not as in my discovery as a Mum I discovered the joy of life in a deeper more meaningful way. And yes, it has certainly brought its challenges, I often found myself wanting to tear my hair out with frustration, isolation, confusion and more. Yet within the struggles it prompted me to search deeper, to discover ways of communicating and connecting with my children that formed bonds rooted firmly in trust, security, curiosity, awareness and above all love.
Behviours changed not because of having to, rather because of wanting to, a strong platform was formed to enable growth all round. A platform of stability, security, consistency, clear boundaries for safety, and ample opportunities for fun and play, a child's natural way to communicate, express and make sense of their world. And for me as a parent to play, to be creative with my children awakened my own innate sense of belonging, worth, joy and appreciation.
Playful parents are at the heart of healthy children, forming secure bonds of attachment which builds resilience and coping skills to manage the many challenges life can and will inevitably throw at us. More to come!
